Last week, it was the Caz Zyks show for Jacobs in their opening-week win over Joliet West. On Friday night at Johnsburg, Zyks took a backseat to the running of fullback Kyle Wright, who rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown as the Golden Eagles moved to 2-0 on the season with a 28-0 win over the Skyhawks.
Jacobs started slowly again as they did in week 1, turning the ball over twice in the opening quarter as either team scored in the opening quarter. In the second however, the Golden Eagles began to take over the game and took the lead with 8:52 left in the half on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Jason Judson to Antonio Dunner. After an interception on Johnsburg’s first offensive play after the touchdown, Judson marched Jacobs back down the field and ended the drive with a ten-yard run of his own to give Jacobs a 13-0 lead.
Wright then took center stage with a 55-yard run down the sideline with under two minutes to go in the half and Jacobs had a 21-0 advantage going into halftime. Jacobs tacked on a final touchdown late in the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Judson to Evan Bishop. Jacobs coach Bill Mitz said that there is a lot of work still to be done.

“We’ve got to get better on defense,” Mitz said. “It was a little frustrating right now but we are nowhere near where we want to be.”
Mitz added that he was pleased with Wright’s game but mistakes were made that can’t keep happening.

“He started off slow and fumbled the ball though and we can’t be doing that,” Mitz said. “He knows that’s inexcusable especially for a guy who played here last season. That’s stuff that’s killing us. We haven’t played a complete football game…maybe next week.”
Wright said that the team figured Johnsburg would be looking for Zyks after last week’s big game.
“We knew they were going to be focusing on Caz after that game (last week) so I knew I was going to have a couple of big holes and I did,” Wright said. “He carried out the fakes well. It was a kind of sloppy win, we got two wins but we got to get some things together.”
Jacobs held Johnsburg to just 35 yards of offense in the second half while rolling up a total of 490 yards of offense for the game with 276 of those yards coming during the three-touchdown outburst in the second quarter. Jacobs will look to get to 3-0 next week at home against Grayslake North.
