“We’ve been hearing about other communities doing it,” Griffin said. “It’s been on our minds for a long time to do it. But, like any venture, it takes a while.”

The village of Huntley’s Facebook page is set up as a business page and lets followers comment. Comments on the page have been positive, but Griffin is prepared to field any negative comments or answer questions from residents.

Huntley’s Facebook presence dovetails with the village’s efforts to market itself to prospective businesses. The village has been working on initiatives like Spotlight on Huntley Businesses, a publication profiling local businesses and HuntleyFirst.com, a website dedicated to economic development.

“It’s good to have your name out there,” Griffin said.

The Facebook page will have post about what’s happening around town, special events and public service announcements, like branch pickup.
