Looking Back at Week 6 of the Prep Football Season

We are now at the 2/3 point of the prep football season, here's my thoughts on the local teams after Week 6 and going into Week 7.

Jacobs: The Golden Eagles started slow but came away with a 48-19 win over Huntley to improve to 6-0 and officially qualified for the playoffs. It will be the first time Jacobs has qualified for the playoffs in back-to-back years since 1998 and 1999. It was another strong night for the Jacobs running game as Caz Zyks went over 100 yards rushing and Kyle Wright scored three touchdowns. Jacobs rolled up over 450 yards of offense and now the schedule gets much tougher with undefeated Prairie Ridge coming to Algonquin Friday night. Prairie Ridge gave up their first points in four weeks in their Week 6 win. This will be the biggest test to date and is followed by a trip to Crystal Lake South in Week 8. The crowds are growing and this game should bring the biggest crowd of all.

Huntley: The Red Raiders fell to 1-5 with their loss to Jacobs. It was a strong start for Huntley, taking a 7-0 lead on the Golden Eagles when Jake Brock had a quarterback sneak for a touchdown before Jacobs found their stride. It has been a long season for Huntley, facing several opponents that were either undefeated or had just one loss and now will face Cary-Grove who is coming off a 56-13 win against McHenry. Kyle Goettelmann had 86 yards rushing to lead Huntley. The last three weeks will be a good time to see who can be productive next year with the Red Raiders' official elimination from the playoffs and hopes that the injury bug doesn't hit this team like it did this season.

Dundee-Crown: The Chargers lost their 22nd straight year with a 25-6 loss to Woodstock North to fall to 0-6. D-C's chances were hurt with starting quarterback Garret Ryan out with a shoulder injury but the Dundee-Crown running game was led by TJ Moss, who had 68 yards while Ardian Asani added 54 more. It has been a struggle all year and injuries don't help matters. The D-C schedule becomes much tougher the rest of the season with games against Crystal Lake South Friday before games at Cary-Grove and Jacobs to finish the year. Is another 0-9 season in the cards? It is looking more and more that way, which is a shame for the Chargers fans who come out week after week to support their team. With a young team however, maybe success can be right around the corner.
