Opt-Out Letters Being Mailed Out for Electric Aggregation Program
Huntley gives residents update on program. New supplier's rate is 46 percent less than other suppliers, officials said.

is sending out opt-out letters to residents and small business this week as the comes together.
The letters will be mailed out this week and Direct Energy’s customer call center will take calls the day the opt-out period begins, officials said in a press release. The contact information will be provided in the letter.
Residents must sign the opt-out letter within 21 days if they do not want to be included in the village’s electric aggregation program.

The program bundles together residential homes and small businesses to get a lower rate. Voters approved a referendum in March granting the village authority to proceed with the program.
Huntley is part of the Northern Illinois Government Electric Aggregation consortium, which reached an agreement with Direct Energy earlier this month. The electric supply company and the consortium have an agreement for a one-year fixed rate at 4.169 cents per kilowatt-hour — a rate 46 percent less than ComEd or other rates individual residents can obtain, according to Plug in Illinois as of early May.

While ComEd’s rate is scheduled to change June 1, officials believe Direct Energy’s rate still will be lower, the release stated.
If residents want to be part of the electric aggregation program, they don’t need to do anything. Enrollment is automatic.
People enrolled in programs with other electric suppliers may choose to opt into the village's program. More information about opting in will be provided later.
