The fall sports season is in full swing, here’s a look at some interesting stories developing early on.
Watch out for Caz Zyks: The Jacobs senior running back ran for 216 yards in Week 1 against Joliet West in a 21-6 win. If Zyks keeps his pace up even for the first six games of the season, that would give him the top rushing season in Jacobs history. Darius Bowers holds the record at 1,186 yards in 2007 and with Zyks facing Johnsburg this week, who gave up over 400 yards rushing in their Week 1 loss to Grant, Zyks may just add to his per-game average.
Youth Movement: Usually freshmen in cross country especially for girls come in and make a big statement early on. That’s exactly what Huntley’s Kelly Meelheib and Jacobs’ Lauren Van Vlierbergen did on Saturday at the McHenry County Meet. Meelheib finished fifth while Van Vlierbergen took seventh place in the three-mile event at Huntley High School. Keep an eye out for both as the season wears on.

Sam Boesch continued her hot start with 12 kills in the title match against Naperville North. The Red Raiders are experienced and will give Cary-Grove and Crystal Lake Central fits in the Fox Valley Conference this season.
