Public Hearing This Week for Huntley's Electric Aggregation Program

Hearing set at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5.

 

Huntley residents will get an explanation of programs from an expert at a public hearing Thursday.

The first of two public hearings will be held at 7 p.m. April 5 in the Municipal Complex Board Room, 10987 Main St., Huntley.

Mark Burns, president of Independent Energy Consultants, will present the village’s Plan of Operations and Governance and answer questions. Among the topics to be covered:

  • the purpose of aggregation programs
  • how the new rates will be determined
  • the process involved in the opt-out program
  • how to compare prices of your current rates and new rates

Huntley voters approved a authorizing the village to bundle homes and small businesses together to negotiate lower rates. If a homeowner chooses not to participate, there is an opt-out option.

Last month’s referendum did not pass in other communities like Algonquin and Lake in the Hills_ which were to be partners with the village and the Northern Illinois Governmental Energy Aggregation Consortium. However, Huntley is moving forward with the consortium and other municipalities that had successful referendums.

A second public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12 also in the boardroom.
