Red Raiders Win Final Regular Season Game
Neukirch scores 13 as three players reach double figures in 50-30 win over Marengo
Friday night gave Huntley seniors Dylan Neukirch and Tyler Brunschon one final chance to play in front of the home fans as the Red Raiders completed their regular season against Marengo.
Neukirch and Brunschon along with the rest of the Red Raiders gave the fans one last home win for 2010-11 as Neukirch scored a game-high 13 points in a 50-30 non-conference win over the Indians. Huntley (22-4) got off to a fast start, scoring the first ten points of the game and holding Marengo scoreless for the first five minutes in building a 12-6 lead after one quarter. Huntley added an 8-0 run to start the second quarter to take a 12-point lead and extended their lead to 13 by the half.
The second half was more of the same as Huntley began the quarter on a 9-2 run and outscored Marengo 14-3 in the quarter to put the game fully out of reach. Jake Dachman added 12 while Troy Miller had 11 points for Huntley. Huntley coach Marty Manning said that while it was a win, it wasn’t something he wanted to see after a full week away from game action.

“It was good we won but I don’t think we had a good week of practice and I think it carried over into the game,” Manning said. “I thought we were kind of lethargic. I think defensively we were pretty good but offensively, we weren’t as crisp as I would like us to be.”
Huntley moves on now to the Class 4A Prairie Ridge Regional Wednesday night where the top-seeded Red Raiders will face the winner of Monday’s game between No. 4 seed Cary-Grove and No. 5 seed Prairie Ridge. Manning added that his team has some work to do to be ready for regional play.

“We don’t know who we are going to play but the main thing is that we are prepared, which I was disappointed in tonight. We got to be prepared no matter what,” Manning said. “I don’t think we played at a playoff level tonight so we are going to have to make sure to get in a good three days of practice before we play our matchup.”
Wednesday night’s game in Crystal Lake begins at 6 p.m.
