Relay for Life Team Holds Old-fashioned Bake Sale
Relay for Life of Northern Fox Valley scheduled June 15 and 16 at Huntley Park District, 12015 Mill Street.
Kathie Green is a member of the Walgreens Warriors, part of the Relay for Life of Northern Fox Valley, but she is also a cancer warrior.
The Sun City Huntley resident has survived cancer _ two bouts of ovarian and two of breast cancer _ in the last 20 years.

She is now being treated for liver cancer.
“I figure heaven wasn’t ready for me and hell is afraid I’d take over,” she joked, standing outside the on Princeton Drive Saturday afternoon.

Yet Green was out Saturday doing what she always does, raising donations for cancer research.
The Walgreens Warriors held an old-fashioned bake sale outside the Princeton Drive location in Huntley over the weekend, selling homemade goodies. All the proceeds go to the Relay for Life. The sale continues Sunday.
Relay for Life of Norhern Fox Valley is holding its event June 15 and 16 at Huntley Park District. Information and donations, including to individual teams, is available on its website.
Cathy Shamhart is part of the 12- member team, Walgreens Warriors. The team tries to get employees from other Walgreens to participate. Their former store manager, Gary Kozlowski was supportive of the team as is the current store manager, Myles Scott.
Green is the “token cancer survivor,” she said.
She has found her colleagues very helpful in generating interest in Relay for Life and supportive of her own personal battle, which is starting again.
The liver cancer diagnosis came during a regular check up in March. It was a shock to her, she said. She is currently undergoing radiation treatments.
Green, who is also president of the Sun City Huntley Neighborhood Watch/Neighbors Helping Neighbors program, has scaled back a bit because she gets tired easily but she continues being a part of the Neighborhood Watch group and continues working at Walgreens.
And, she plans to continue fighting for herself and cancer research.
The Walgreens Warriors are fighting because the battle isn’t over until a cure for cancer if found, Green said.
