Resurfacing Project Starts in Southwind Subdivision
Huntley kicks off annual road program.

There’s no doubt construction season is in full swing with the Route 47 project and now the village of Huntley is starting its street resurfacing program.
Preliminary work has started and actual construction is slated for next week in Southwind subdivision, off Reed Road.
Huntley trustees last week authorized the first payment, in the amount of $130,505, for the 2011 street program that resurfaces neighborhood streets. The village has a schedule it follows every year.

This year, the program focuses on Southwind where the streets are about 10 years old, Village Manager Dave Johnson said.
The total cost of the street program is about $1 million, but the village has been able to keep up the program during the recession_ unlike neighboring villages.

“We’ve been fortunate to be able to continue” the program, Johnson said. “We look at our roads as assets. (They’re) a valuable asset.”
Huntley’s transportation system is a selling point officials are using when pitching the town to developers and companies. Last week, Johnson did just that at a private investor’s meeting in downtown Chicago.
Investors were interested in learning more about Huntley’s plan for the Interstate 90 interchange, scheduled for construction in 2012, Johnson said.
For now, Huntley is concentrating on the Southwind project. Johnson said residents can get emails with updates on the project and there are message boards throughout the subdivision alerting residents of the roadwork.
