UPDATE: Explosives Found Inside Georgian Place Home

The juvenile at center of investigation known around the neighborhood to shoot off fireworks.

Huntley police are testing the substances and materials found inside the home of a 14-year-old boy seen in a YouTube video making explosive devices, but no charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon.

Dozens of Huntley police, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents, the Kane County Bomb Squad and Huntley firefighters surrounded the home around 1pm Thursday leaving neighbors wondering what was happening in the Georgian Place subdivision.

A neighbor, who did not wish to give his name, said he found out what happened from other neighbors. He was concerned about his children’s safety, but police seemed to have the situation under control, he said.

No one was in any immediate danger and there was no need to evacuate the neighborhood, Huntley Deputy Chief Todd Fulton said Friday.

Fulton couldn’t say how much or what type of explosive material was taken from the home because the case is under investigation.  But, he said, “a lot of the substances in the house are illegal to have in conjunction with other stuff.”

According to reports, the juvenile was creating illegal fireworks with the explosive materials, including M-80s. Police did not indicate where or how the juvenile obtained the materials.

The boy’s family is cooperating with police, Fulton said.

The family is “nice,” the neighbor said. The boy, however, has been known to play with fireworks, he said. “He’s done stuff before, shooting off fireworks.”

“I didn’t seen anything wrong with shooting off fireworks but bombs are a different story,” the neighbor said.

The case is unusual and police have never had contact with the 14-year-old, Fulton said. “This is something we don’t see a lot of,” he said.
