Complaints Arise About Hyde Park Post Office

An Internet outage that closed the 55th Street station for hours last week didn't help.

CHICAGO, IL - Long lines, not having certain items like postage stamps and unfriendly service has plagued the experience of dropping off a piece of mail at the United States Postal Service finance station at 1510 E. 55th St. in Hyde Park.

“Everyone complains about the service here,” Hyde Park resident Charlene White told the Hyde Park Herald, who detailed some of the headaches residents have dealt with at the station and steps the Post Office has taken to remedy them.

A common complaint is that the office is often understaffed. Only two full-time employees work there.

“This station needs to expand and be more full-time because of the amount of people moving into Hyde Park,” Kenneth Newman said. “Especially during the school months at the university, they need to have extra people on duty.”

The complaints grew even more following a temporary Internet outage that closed the location for much of the day on Monday, July 25.
