Hyde Park Woman Sentenced for 2014 Boyfriend Stabbing
Shawanda Swain will spend a dozen years in prison for the attack at a Hyde Park apartment.
CHICAGO, IL - Shawanda Swain was sentenced to 12 years in prison this week, two months after a judge found her guilty of stabbing her boyfriend to death at her Hyde Park apartment in 2014.
Swain was accused of stabbing 23-year-old Damani Chenier once during an argument on Oct. 9, 2014 at the apartment in the 5100 block of South Hyde Park Boulevard, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Swain’s attorney argued that she was abused - both physically and verbally - and acted in self defense.
