1 Dead After 3-Vehicle Crash on I-80 Near Joliet

Two other people were transported to the hospital, one of whom has life-threatening injuries.

One person was killed and two others were injured today after a three-vehicle crash on I-80 at Briggs near Joliet, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. R.A. Caves said.

The man killed was identified by the Will County Coroner’s Office as David Ruiz Zenteno, a 31-year-old Des Moines, Iowa resident.

According to Caves, the accident happened at 4:11 p.m. when a vehicle traveling westbound crossed over the median and entered the eastbound lanes, striking two vehicles.

Eastbound lanes are blocked and traffic is being rerouted off the highway at Richards St.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
