12 People Displaced After Crest Hill Apartment Fire

The cause of the fire appears to have originated in the kitchen area.

CREST HILL, IL — Twelve people were displaced from their homes after a fire broke out at a Crest Hill apartment building Tuesday afternoon.

According to Lockport Township Fire Protection District Fire Chief Dave Skoryi, the fire broke out at 4:08 p.m. at 1481 Pioneer Drive.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke conditions throughout the entire 16-unit building. The fire was located in a first-floor apartment and extinguished within 20 minutes. The cause of the fire appears to have originated in the kitchen area.

No injuries were reported, but 12 residents are being assisted in finding temporary housing.
