$123,000 New Roof Needed For Bicentennial Park: Joliet

Joliet's City Council is expected to vote on the capital expense at Tuesday night's meeting. City Manager Jim Capparelli urges approval.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet City Council will vote at Tuesday night's meeting to award a contract of $122,750 to replace the roof at Bicentennial Park, 201 W. Jefferson St. City manager Jim Capparelli is urging the Council to go with the lowest bidder, Seal Tight Exteriors.

The four bids that were submitted to Joliet were as follows:

  • Seal Tight Exteriors Inc. $122,750.
  • Adler Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. $159,100.
  • Metal Master Roof Master $177,876.
  • Elens Maichin Roofing & Sheet Metal $198,170.

The city of Joliet's engineer estimate for the project was $175,000.

According to Capparelli's memo to the Council: the existing gravel over asphalt roof envelope has exceeded its life expectancy.

Despite the best efforts, the roof is no longer repairable and must be recovered, Capparelli advised. Many active leaks are occurring, causing interior damage to the auditorium, offices, lobby, and backstage areas, he noted.
