16-Year-Old Killed in Drive-By Shooting
Teenager was shot while fleeing from a vehicle in Lockport Township, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Lockport Township Thursday afternoon as he ran from his assailants, Will County Sheriff’s police said.
Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas said 16-year-old Latray Wright and a 17-year-old friend were walking west on Princeton Avenue near Fairmont Avenue just before 4 p.m. when a car pulled up and the occupants opened fire.
Kaupas said Wright was shot as he fled from the attackers, described as three black males in a blue vehicle.

The 17-year-old was reportedly unhurt.
Kaupas said Wright was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox before being airlifted to another hospital. He said police learned of Wright’s death on Friday morning.

Kaupas declined to say where or how many times Wright was shot, and said it was premature to speculate on a motive for the shooting.
Will County Sheriff’s detectives are working closely with Joliet police on the case, Kaupas said.
Stray Bullet Strikes Shopper in Jefferson Street Jewel Parking Lot
The fatal shooting came a day after three people — including an innocent bystander — were shot in an attack near Midland and John Street in Joliet. Two of the three victims were shot while drinking on a porch in the 1300 block of John Street. The third victim was coming out of the Jefferson Street Jewel-Osco when he was hit by a stray bullet from one of two reported assailants. None of the injuries were life threatening, police said.
