$1M Bail, Arrest Warrant Issued In Joliet Domestic Violence Case

JOLIET, IL — Authorities at the Will County Sheriff's Department are trying to capture a 20-year-old Joliet man who tried to strangle a woman during an incident of domestic violence in Joliet on July 9, charges show. Will County Judge Dave Carlson set bail at $1 million and issued a warrant for the arrest of Jacob D. Herrera, who lived in the 700 block of Cayuga Street.

The criminal complaint indicates Herrera tried to strangle a woman who lived in his household or was a family member. Herrera faces charges of aggravated domestic battery, criminal trespass to a residence, criminal damage to property and two charges of domestic battery.

Besides trying to strangle the woman, Herrera struck the woman in the head, and he grabbed her about the body, according to the Will County Sheriff's Department complaint.

Herrera has not been taken into custody as of July 16.

Will County Jail logs indicate the Joliet Police Department arrested him on June 23 on two charges of domestic battery against the same victim. In that case, Herrera was released from custody the next day after posting 10 percent of his $2,000 bail.

At the time of his June 23 Will County Jail booking, Herrera gave an address of South Central Park Avenue in Chicago.
