1st Coronavirus Case At Joliet Police Department
Interim city manager Steve Jones issued a news release on the matter late Wednesday morning.

JOLIET, IL — One of the members of the Joliet Police Department's investigations unit has tested positive for the coronavirus, interim city of Joliet manager Steve Jones announced late Wednesday morning. This marks the first case involving a City of Joliet employee.
According to Jones, one of the investigators started experiencing symptoms last week and decided to visit the Joliet Walmart medical testing site.
"As directed by public health officials, the officer immediately self-quarantined while awaiting results," Jones indicated.

On Wednesday, the Joliet Police Department was notified the test result was positive for the coronavirus. The city said the police officer is doing well and recovering at home. The Joliet Police Department has nearly 300 sworn officers plus several civilian employees at its two locations, the downtown station across from City Hall on Washington Street and a substation on Caton Farm Road in Kendall County.
Meanwhile, a thorough disinfecting and cleaning of the affected area is taking place Wednesday, Jones said.
The city said it will continue to monitor the health of its workforce and work spaces in all facilities.
