2 Car Burglars Caught On Camera End Up In Jail: Will County Police Blotter

Will County's Sheriff's Department has investigated a number of thefts and car burglaries in the Wilmington area this month.

JOLIET, IL - A couple of burglars targeting people around Wilmington probably never expected to be caught in the act thanks to an astute property owner's video surveillance system. Back on July 11, a t0tal of eight separate vehicles were broken into in the 2000 block of Roberts Street, according to the Will County Sheriff's Department. The thieves removed wallets, cash, wrenches, an iPhone, credit cards, tanning supplies and a gym bag. But these two didn't get away with their loot, they've ended up in the county jail.

Sheriff's police learned that one of the homeowners had video surveillance of the burglary in process, later posting the video on Facebook. Sheriff's detectives subsequently arrested Misty Jerz, 20, of the 300 block of Joliet's Siegmund Street, and Sean M. Patrick, 25, of the 1700 block of Joliet's Autumn Drive. Jerz and Patrick are charged with two felony counts of burglary, sheriff's officials said. Both remain locked up in the Will County jail, where their bond was set at $100,000. Both have court appearances scheduled later this week.

Wilmington has been hit with a rash of vehicle break-ins in recent weeks, sheriff's reports show. Two unlocked vehicles were also burglarized on July 11 in the 24000 block of West Cottage Road. In that crime, the thieves stole a purse, keys, someone's driver's license, credit cards and $100 cash. A second home in the same block had one of its unlocked vehicles broken into. Taken there was a Coach wallet, battery jumper, cordless drill, sunglasses and a beverage cooler.

Over in Braidwood, the Braidwood Recreation Club, 33900 block of Route 53, reported on July 11 that someone entered a vehicle and stole a 9mm handgun and a large machete knife, according to Will County sheriff's reports.

Around Plainfield, a woman called a company owner on July 14 to complain about one of the company's vehicles, a 2012 Chevy Silverado, driving recklessly and at excessive speeds along Interstate 55. The vehicle had a company logo on it, Bronkberry Farms. Turns it, the vehicle had been stolen from the business in the 18000 block of South Bronk Road. About nine hours after the reported theft occurred, the Illinois State Police notified the sheriff's department that officers recovered the abandoned stolen vehicle. The thief, however, has not been captured.
