ROCKDALE, IL — It's rare to see a car crash into a house, but two cars crashing into a house at the same time? It happened Friday night in Joliet's small neighboring community of Rockdale, population 2,000.

Joliet's Facebook Live reporter Bob Hernandez was at the scene and broke the news. He told Joliet Patch the crash happened at Midland Avenue and Lakeview Avenue. He said there were several Joliet police officers and squad cars at the scene.

By 8:45 p.m., Joliet Patch spoke with Rockdale Police Chief Robert Dykstra. He said that motorists in the two cars got into an altercation in the city of Joliet, perhaps on Larkin Avenue, then escalating to Jefferson Street and "finally to our town."

Dykstra said the two cars were chasing each other from Joliet and that's when they crashed into a house in Rockdale owned by a young married couple, the chief said.

The crash occurred at 6:57 p.m.

Dykstra said that Joliet police officers have accounted for all the people involved in the crash. Everyone has either been arrested, detained for further questioning or taken to the hospital for treatment of any injuries, the Rockdale chief said.

Dykstra said that none of the people in the car crash was seriously injured and the homeowners were not injured.

Dykstra said that after the two cars crashed into the house in the 600 block of Midland, people from both cars got out and began fighting one another in the homeowner's yard.

"I think Joliet is trying to sort out exactly what was going on," Dykstra said. "The vehicles were chasing each other, made contact, and went into the house. So far, it appears there was some sort of altercation in Joliet."

The house on Midland Avenue was pushed more than a foot off its foundation, making it uninhabitable, the chief said. The chief said the water, gas and electrical utilities have been shut off.
