2 Homes Shot Up On Youngs Ave., Teen, 16, Arrested: JPD

Around 4:40 p.m. Joliet police were sent to the area of Youngs Avenue and Elwood Avenue for a report of shots fired.

JOLIET, IL — A 16-year-old Joliet boy is now staying at the River Valley Justice Center in connection with this week's gunfire along Youngs Avenue and Elwood Avenue where two houses were shot up.

Joliet police said there was also a head-on crash in connection with the shootings.

The 16-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated discharge of a gun and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said officers recovered spent shell casings in the street near the Chevrolet Equinox and Chevrolet Cruze that were in the apparent head-on collision.

The Equinox appeared to have been damaged by the gunfire from the Cruze, and it is suspected these events led to the collision, English announced.

There were no reported injuries from the two nearby houses that were shot up.

While investigating the shooting, a .45 caliber stolen handgun was left abandoned in the middle of the street near the Chevrolet Cruz, English said.

That night, Joliet police located the juvenile at his residence nearby and placed him into custody without incident.
