2 Joliet Men Dealt Heroin, Fentanyl: Prosecutors
The arrests of the two men, ages 70 and 44, occurred this week. Both are now in the Will County Jail.
JOLIET, IL — Two Joliet men are now behind the steel bars of the Will County Jail after being arrested Monday on three charges of dealing heroin and Fentanyl in October, their criminal complaint shows.
Jerald Shumpert, 44, of the 100 block of West Zarley Boulevard, and 70-year-old Joseph L. Smith, who lives in the 400 block of Western Avenue, remain in custody following their arrests three days ago. Smith was jailed Nov. 18 on a $250,000 bail while Shumpert was arrested the same day, but his bail was set at $500,000.
The criminal investigation of Shumpert and Smith was conducted by the Cook County Sheriff's Office. The alleged drug deals happened in Will County on Oct. 1, Oct. 9 and Oct. 30, according to the Will County State's Attorney's Office.

Both Joliet men are charged with three counts of unlawful delivery of controlled substance.
On all three dates in October, Smith and Shumpert were accused of dealing 1 to 15 grams of heroin or Fentanyl, the complaint states.
