Coroner IDs Men Found Shot in Stolen SUV

The Joliet Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide.

JOLIET, IL — Two men were found dead in a stolen SUV early Monday morning in Joliet.

Joliet Deputy Chief Al Roechner said the men, ages 25 and 49, were found by a passerby at around 2:09 a.m. with gunshot wounds in a maroon SUV. Police have been speaking with people around the neighborhood, but so far they have no witnesses or suspects. Roechner said it is unknown if the incident is gang-related.

The men have been identified as Clark Travis, Jr., 49, of Urbana, and Jonathan L. Fairley, 25, of Joliet. Fairley has been charged with numerous crimes going back to 2013, including aggravated battery of a pregnant or handicapped person and residential burglary, according to court records.

The Will County Coroner’s Office said the men were pronounced dead at 4:38 a.m. in the 400 block of Sherman Avenue. An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.
