JOLIET, IL — Three males received minor injuries during a shots fired incident in the 200 block of North Hickory Street Monday afternoon.
Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said police received a call for the incident at around 2:55 p.m.
A sergeant was on a call in the Cathedral area when he heard shots fired to the east, Gregory said. Police received calls a short time later of a shooting in the 200 block of Hickory Street.

“911 calls described the victims as leaving the area in a silver Monte Carlo, and we had the license plate,” Gregory said. “Officers in the area located the victims and their vehicle at Jefferson and Nicholson.”
The victims are a 15-year-old boy, a 26-year-old man and a 21-year-old man. All of them are Crest Hill residents, Gregory said.

Witnesses on Hickory Street told police that the shooting took place in the 200 block of North Hickory Street and that “numerous suspects” ran inside an apartment after the shooting. The victims then took off in their vehicle, Gregory said.
Officers conducted a “protective sweep” of the apartment in order to make sure there were no dead bodies or injured people.
“We can enter without a warrant at that time,” Gregory said. After the sweep, police applied for a search warrant.
On the street, shotgun shell casings were found, Gregory said.
The 26-year-old man suffered an eye injury and the other two males had superficial wounds. Two of the three victims refused to give a statement.
Joliet Deputy Police Chief Al Roechner said he did not currently know if the males were targeted.
“We’re still trying to piece things together,” Roechner said.
