2 Shot At Riverwalk Homes Before Security Guard Fired Shots At Suspect: Joliet Police
Police said an armed security guard opened fire after seeing the suspect with a handgun, but the shooter remains at large.

JOLIET, IL —A man and woman were shot Monday afternoon at the Riverwalk Homes Apartments, formerly called Evergreen Terrace, in the 300 block of North Broadway Street, Joliet police said.
According to police, officers responded at 4:03 p.m. to a report of shots fired and found a 27-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man who had been shot. Officers began rendering aid until paramedics arrived.
The woman sustained a gunshot wound to the groin, while the man was shot in the right arm. Both were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting followed a verbal altercation.
By Monday night, Joliet police issued a Facebook bulletin revealing that the special operations squad was investigating in the 1400 block of Dearborn Street, near Center Street.

The roadway was closed, and motorists were encouraged to find other routes.
Early Tuesday, police said detectives identified a male suspect and learned that after the shooting, a security guard at Riverwalk Homes fired shots upon seeing the suspect armed with a handgun.
Officials said officers and detectives canvassed the area and recovered spent shell casings at the scene, but no additional victims were found, and no other injuries were reported.
According to police, investigators learned that the suspect fled in a vehicle following the shooting. The vehicle was later found in the 1400 block of Dearborn Street.
In a news release, police said detectives obtained consent to search the vehicle and a nearby home, but the suspect was not found.
