2 Seriously Hurt After Route 59 Overnight Wreck: JPD

The injuries to the driver of the Infiniti were believed to be life-threatening, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English noted.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police say that two drivers were seriously injured during their middle of the night collision at the stop lights for Route 59 and Caton Farm Road. One of the drivers may have blown a red light, but Joliet police say they are still investigating whether that is true.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the wreck happened around 3:15:

Officers responded to Route 59 and Caton Farm Road and found that a Infiniti QX50 driven by a 29-year-old Plainfield man was westbound on Caton Farm Road approaching Route 59.

The Infiniti entered the intersection, colliding into a Toyota Corolla driven by a 25-year-old Aurora man, was northbound on Illinois Route 59 at Caton Farm Road.

"Information was developed that the Infiniti may have disobeyed a red stoplight, however this remains under investigation," English announced.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department with serious injuries. The Infiniti driver's injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

The roadway was closed for several hours as accident investigators from the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit reconstructed the scene.
