Joliet Victim Fights For Life, Shooter Tries To Stay Alive: Police
Joliet police say the officers found two men near an apartment building driveway with apparent head injuries.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police say they are investigating a violent crime that has left two people, including one of the aggressors, with life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened around 11:45 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of Herkimer Street.
Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said that detectives are still trying to sort out the crime's details. This is what authorities say they have pieced together so far.

English also issued an important update on Monday morning, revealing that:
"Upon further investigation of this incident, the individual originally identified as Juan Cisneros-Rodriguez (37, Joliet) has been positively identified now as Juan Cisneros-Ortiz (33, Joliet). Cisneros-Ortiz remains in the hospital. No charges have been filed as this shooting remains under investigation by Joliet Police Department Detectives."

- Upon learning of the gunshots fired call, officers found two men near an apartment building driveway with apparent head injuries.
- One of the victims, a 45-year-old man, had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. The other injured person, now known to be 33-year-old Juan Cisneros-Ortiz of Joliet, had sustained serious injuries to his head, but he was not shot.
- During the incident, officers found the 19-year-old son of the shooting victim walking nearby, and the teen appeared to have been injured from the incident as well.
- "It is believed that Cisneros and the 45-year-old shooting victim had become involved in an argument in the rear of the apartment building, at which time Cisneros retrieved a handgun from his apartment and then shot the victim," English said. "It is believed the son of the victim intervened and disarmed Cisneros."
- The handgun in this incident was recovered by police.
- The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital by the Joliet Fire Department with life-threatening injuries. Cisneros was rushed to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department with serious head injuries. Cisneros was later airlifted to the University of Chicago hospital, where he remains under police guard.
