The crime occurred inside the apartment building where McCulloh lived, the 900 block of Lois Place, according to Joliet police.

According to police, McCulloh's 23-year-old girlfriend refused his demands to have sex. That's when McCulloh grabbed the young woman and held her down and forced himself onto her, having non-consensual sexual intercourse beginning late Wednesday night, police said.

The woman escaped the apartment on Thursday morning, and that's when she notified police she had been raped. A Joliet Fire Department ambulance responded and took the woman to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The Will County Public Defender's Office has been appointed to represent McCulloh who must come up with $25,000 cash, which is 10 percent of his bond, to go free while his criminal case is pending at the Will County Courthouse.
