3 Joliet, Crest Hill Businesses Sold Alcohol To Minors: State Police

JOLIET, IL — Illinois State Police announced Thursday that three Joliet area businesses were caught selling alcohol to a minor during Tuesday night's police enforcement efforts. A total of 24 businesses in Joliet, Plainfield and Crest Hill were spot-checked, and three chose to sell alcohol to someone under the age of 21 years old, according to state police.

"The ultimate goals are to enforce underage drinking laws and save lives by preventing impaired driving crashes and fatalities," Illinois State Police announced.

The following businesses and employees were cited by the Illinois State Police:

  • Speedway, 20750 Patrick Drive, Crest Hill, employee Daniel Blackburn, 35, of Crest Hill.
  • Fritz Pour House, 1511 Plainfield Road, Joliet, employee Cathleen Vanerka, 52, of Crest Hill.
  • 7-Eleven, 1800 Plainfield Road, Crest Hill, employee Karla Griffin, 23, of Joliet.

The employees were arrested on charges of unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor to a Minor and released on a notice to appear in court, officials said.

"The ISP commends establishments and their employees which do not sell alcohol to minors. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation," Thursday's press release noted.
