3 Joliet School Districts Won't Open Classrooms Wednesday

Joliet District 204, District 86 and Troy schools all cited the frigid weather as the reason for not opening their buildings Wednesday.

JOLIET, IL — Students who attend Joliet Central and Joliet West High Schools will have an E-learning day on Wednesday while grade school and junior high students attending all Joliet Public School District 86 will not have any classes Wednesday.

Troy Consolidated District 30-C students will also have E-learning activities Wednesday. All three Joliet school districts opted to cancel in-person learning because of extreme frigid temperatures predicted in the weather forecast.

Joliet's high temperature on Wednesday will be 10 degrees.

"Due to extreme weather conditions, all District 86 Schools will be closed on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. No classes or after school activities will be held January 26, 2022. The school day will be made up on June 1," District 86 announced.

Troy Schools Superintendent Todd Koehl announced that Wednesday will be an E-learning day for his district's students. Students will learn from home and will not come to school, he said.

Joliet Township High School District 204 sent out the following email to parents, staff and students: "Due to weather concerns, tomorrow, Wednesday, January 26 is an Emergency E-Learning Day for students and staff. This means that students complete assignments online and staff work from home. Students and staff should not report to school tomorrow except for maintenance staff who should check with their direct supervisor."
