Police Shooting Of Bruce Carter Ruled Justified, 3 Months Later
The death of Joliet resident Bruce Carter marked the first time Joliet Police killed a local resident since 2015.

JOLIET, IL - On Tuesday night, minutes before the start of the regular meeting of the Joliet City Council, the Joliet Police Department issued a press release announcing that Detective Aaron Bandy was justified to kill Joliet resident Bruce Carter back on Feb. 6 at the home of Carter's mother, 213 Des Plaines St.
"Detective Aaron Bandy was clearly justified in the use of deadly force," the press release noted.
According to Tuesday's news release, a total of $1,173 was taken during a robbery at the First Midwest Bank on West Jefferson Street, "back on Feb. 6, of which $875 was recovered in Bruce Carter’s possession. Based upon the review and analysis of the police reports, witness statements, forensic tests, fingerprint analysis, Illinois law concerning the use of deadly force and the force option continuum, Detective Aaron Bandy was clearly justified in the use of deadly force."

The press release included several comments from Joliet Chief of Police Al Roechner. One of the comments was, "Today the facts have been released after a thorough and exhaustive investigation by the Major Crimes Task Force and a thorough review by the Will County States Attorney’s Office. Thank you State's Attorney James Glasgow and your team for your integrity and impartial review. I also want to thank the public for their patience while the investigation and review could be completed.”
