3 More Jewel Shoplifting Arrests In Joliet

The Jewel on Jefferson Street has a reputation for busting shoplifters left and right.

JOLIET, IL - The Jewel-Osco in the 1400 block of West Jefferson Street has a reputation for catching crooks in the act of stealing. Joliet Patch has produced a number of articles about shoplifters being caught during the commission of their crimes at the store. Last Thursday, the Jewel security team had another tremendous day. Three separate shoplifters all got an escort out of the building courtesy of the Joliet Police Department, police reports show.

First, let's start with Lander Holeman, 55, a former Chicago resident who has been staying at Joliet's MorningStar Mission. He got arrested for felony retail theft at 5:35 p.m. Joliet Police were called to the store at 5:02 p.m. last Thursday.

"Officers were advised by staff that they observed Holeman take items off the shelf and conceal them inside his pants," police reports state. "Holeman then walked by all points of purchase and staff detained him by the exit doors. Officers then arrested Holeman for the above listed offense."

Four hours earlier, at 1:30 p.m. 33-year-old Bolingbrook resident Nicole Winchell was hauled away by Joliet Police in handcuffs for retail theft at Jefferson Street Jewel-Osco, reports state.

"Upon arrival, officers spoke with staff who stated he observed Winchell walk into the store and place various items into a large blue bag. Winchell then walked past all points of purchase and out the store," police said. "Staff was able to detain Winchell before she fled in a vehicle."

Winchell was later released from custody on a $1,500 I-Bond. When Winchell was arrested on Halloween for several drug paraphernalia charges, the Will County Jail listed her as living in Joliet in the 900 block of Deep Haven Drive.

Thursday's third shoplifting arrest that day occurred in the morning.

The detainee for that retail theft crime was 21-year-old Gregory McGee of Montgomery, police said. Joliet Police were called to the Jewel at 10:40 a.m.

"Upon arrival, officers met with staff members who stated McGee was observed placing items into a shopping cart and then push the cart out of the store without paying for any of the items. Staff was able to stop and detain McGee until police arrival,"police reports show.
