JOLIET, IL — A 45-year-old Joliet father who is accused of kicking his 3-year-old little girl in the face and later leaving her inside the Saloon 2 in the Ingalls Park area of Joliet's east side now faces three new criminal charges from the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow.

This week, Steven Canady is now facing three counts of violating an order of protection. He remains incarcerated in the Will County Jail in connection with his late July arrest by the Will County Sheriff's Office following a child abandonment incident at the Saloon 2 on Joliet's Washington Avenue, a crime that drew extensive coverage from the Joliet Patch.

As for Canady's new charges, Will County's prosecutors note that an order of protection was put in place against Canady on July 29 after he was being detained for kicking a 3-year-old child in the head, causing visible injury, and then taking the child to a bar and leaving the child with patrons inside the bar.

The order of protection protects Canady's ex-girlfriend and co-resident at his home on Joliet's Argyle Avenue. However, from the jail, Canady called her, and she indicated she does not want to talk to him, and their relationship is now over, court files show. When he called he again, she indicated she saw the video of Canady kicking the 3-year-old child and told him not to call again. "I told you I did that," Canady responded.

Canady then called her a third time from the Will County Jail, and he vowed that "when he gets out, he will kick her teeth in, he will kick everyone's teeth in," prosecutors revealed.

On July 30, Canady called a person believed to be his father and indicated he does not know how he will get his stuff out of the woman's house and "he will burn that house down when he gets out and also that he will kill that bitch and kill all of them," Will County prosecutors wrote.

Then, this week, on Aug. 4, Canady called the woman from the jail on a recorded line, at 1:36 p.m., 1:52 p.m. and 9:03 p.m., and prosecutors obtained and reviewed those calls, the court files reflect.

"On August 4, he called three times making comments stating he hopes they don't use the call against him. He has a conviction of domestic battery under 18CF2162," prosecutors informed the judge.

Canady's past convictions include domestic battery in 2018, unlawful restraint in 2017, delivering a controlled substance in 2013, burglary in 2012 and two DUIS from 2008 and 2018.

As for Canady, he has been allowed a contact visit, paper pass or video visit with downtown Joliet attorney Cosmo Tedone, as well as Tedone's fellow attorneys, paralegals and legal assistants "and this order is an open order," the court files show.

Canady's next hearing is set for Aug. 14 in Courtroom 405.
