4 Downtown Joliet Bridge Closings Near
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the following Joliet drawbridges will each need to be closed for a short period of time.

JOLIET, IL — At a time when downtown Joliet looks like a ghost town because so many major businesses and buildings are closed amid the coronavirus outbreak, the state of Illinois announced Monday that four downtown drawbridges will be closed several days apiece for mechanical upgrades.
The work begins at 7 a.m. Monday, April 20. State employees will be installing aerial cables over the Des Plaines River as part of an ongoing project to upgrade the movable bridges so all of them will be controlled from one central control office.
The downtown Joliet bridge closings for cars, trucks and pedestrians are as follows:

- Jackson Street Bridge, April 20-24
- Cass Street Bridge, May 11-15
- Jefferson Street Bridge, May 18-22
- McDonough Street Bridge, May 26-29
The entire bridge project is expected to finish later this year, according to the state.
