5 Girls On Wrestling Team Make State For Joliet Township High School

"I am even more excited that I get to represent the Joliet Township Girls Wrestling Team," remarked Joliet West junior Eliana Paramo.

JOLIET, IL — Five members of the Joliet Township High School Girls Wresting Team qualified for the IHSA Girls State Wrestling Meet after competing in sectionals last weekend, according to Joliet Township High School District 204 communications staff.

"I am so proud to be representing my school and, more importantly, my team at state this year," Joliet West senior Alexa Latham said in Tuesday's press release. "This sport has not only given me new opportunities, but also a family."

Girls advancing to the IHSA State Wrestling Series are :

  • Joliet West sophomore Chloe Wong (100);
  • Joliet West junior Eliana Paramo (115);
  • Joliet Central senior Nydia Martinez (170);
  • Joliet West senior Alexa Latham (190);
  • Joliet Central junior Fernanda Miranda (235).

The team is led by Head Coach Elizabeth Short and Assistant Coaches Vincente Paramo, Giavanna Gomez, and Tom Hart.

The IHSA Girls Wrestling State Tournament takes place February 24 and 25 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.

“This is our first year as a co-op team and I think it’s incredible how much we have accomplished this season, and I am so grateful to be a part of it." Joliet West junior Eliana Paramo remarked in Tuesday's press release.

Joliet Central senior Nydia Martinez remarked that "being part of Joliet Township Girls Wrestling is a huge honor. While being on a up-and-coming team, it was great to see how many girls joined the wrestling program. As the season comes to an end, we are lucky to have five girls who qualified for state. Being one of the five girls, I am so proud to represent Joliet at the state tournament."
