82-year-old Drunk Woman Gets Into Wreck, Gets Angry At Joliet Cops: Police

The octogenarian spent several hours at the Will County Adult Detention Facility before posting 10 percent of her $3,000 bond.

JOLIET, IL - It was Saturday night and a Joliet couple were stopped at a red light inside their 1999 Ford Windstar on Essington Drive. The light finally turned green. Smash. An 82-year-old Joliet motorist driving a 2013 Nissan Sentra rear-ended the couple around 9:15 p.m. Joliet police officers responded to the crash near the intersection of Caton Farm Road. At first, officers suspected this was a run of the mill traffic wreck. But as time went on, the 82-year-old motorist, Ann Bowser-Hillard, became irate, police said.

"At the scene, she was acting erratic, saying the crash investigation was taking too long and that the officer at the scene did not know how fast she was going," Deputy Chief Ed Gregory told Joliet Patch.

As the officer was trying to fill out routine traffic crash paperwork and visit with the other occupants, Bowser-Hillard kept approaching his squad car, demanding that he hurry up with his investigation so she could go home. She did this multiple times, Gregory said.

"She kept interrupting this officer, asking how long is this going to take? As she kept interrupting, the officer could smell odor of alcoholic beverages coming off her breath."

At the scene, Bowser-Hillard failed the sobriety tests and she later failed a breathalyzer test, police said. Fortunately, the two other motorists were not seriously hurt, though the 30-year-old female passenger was taken to Presence Saint Joseph's Medical Center as a precaution. A piece of furniture inside of their vehicle was dislodged during the wreck, striking the woman, police said.
