Abandoned House Burns Down On Frontage Road: Joliet Fire Department

The Joliet Fire Department said that a number of fire stations responded to the call including Troy.

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet Fire Department was on the scene of an early morning house fire that began around 4 a.m. The blaze at the abandoned structure took place in the 21000 block of Southeast Frontage Road near Interstate 55. A Joliet battalion chief said the house was vacant for quite some time.

The house was one of several structures that were slated to be torn down for the new mall development that will be built here within the few years. The boarded up house did not have gas or electricity, officials said. The structure was deemed a total loss, but a damage estimate was not yet available. Joliet's Fire Stations No. 7, 6 and 8 responded to the call along with Engine 5. Troy's Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The fire remains under investigation and the official cause isn't known.
