Absolute Sobriety For Angel Contreras: Judge Gavlin
Elected by Joliet Township's Democrat voters in 2021, Supervisor Angel Contreras now faces three felony charges in Will County.

JOLIET, IL — As one of the main conditions of his bail, Joliet Township Supervisor Angel Contreras must abstain from drinking alcoholic beverages indefinitely, according to Will County court records.
The order was issued by Will County Judge Chrystel Gavlin, who set Contreras' bail at $25,000.
The Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has charged the 36-year-old rising star in the Will County Democrat Party with three felony offenses: two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of aggravated driving while license revoked.

Joliet police officers arrested Contreras in the middle of the night on June 19. Contreras was driving a 2007 Honda Ridgeline on Western Avenue "and he did so at a time when his driver's license was revoked for a violation ... and the current violation ... is the defendant's second violation," the criminal complaint noted.
The felony DUI charges state that Contreras "while under the combined influence of alcohol, other drugs or drugs, or intoxicating compound or compounds to a degree that rendered the defendant incapable of safely driving, drove a vehicle ... while the defendant did not possess a driver's license or permit or a restricted driving permit or a judicial driving permit or a monitoring device driving permit."

As a condition of bail, Judge Gavlin informed Contreras that he may be subject to random alcohol and drug screens imposed by the courts.
His next appearance is set for mid-July in Courtroom 405 of Will County Judge Dave Carlson.
