JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry issued a press release Friday revealing that the African American Business Association, a subcommittee of the chamber, will become its own 501(c)(6) organization beginning December 1.

AABA’s membership has steadily grown since it was established in 2017. This new enterprise is the result of several months of planning between the AABA board of directors and chamber staff to support continued growth of this group, including more resources to support additional programming needs and opportunities for members through this separate 501(c)(6) designation, according to Joliet Chamber Vice President Mike Paone.

"Throughout its history, the Joliet Chamber has served as an incubator for new ideas, a source for information, and the backbone of community pride. And it is with great pride we announce this opportunity, not only for existing AABA members, but for the community at large. It’s a critical investment, one that furthers diverse programming and resources for all members of the business community," Paone announced.

"The chamber looks forward to a strong working relationship and is proud to support this new venture. We are collectively committed to providing a smooth transition."

In the next few weeks, additional information will be shared with existing members of the African American Business Association on transition of accounts as we plan to provide absolute clarity on how the process will occur, the Chamber added.
