After Grill Island Flop, New Route 59 Restaurant Poised To Open
Joliet's Grill Island restaurant had wanted to be known for its wide assortment of loaded cheese fries, Philly steaks and homemade desserts.

JOLIET, IL — The Grill Island restaurant opened in late April on Joliet's Route 59 corridor and closed its doors to the surprise of many people during the month of June. Once it opened, a number of people went on social media to compliment Grill Island for its loaded cheese fries.
Joliet Patch even featured Grill Island and its cheese fries in a story about the new restaurant. But, then, in a flash, it was gone. Grill Island covered its windows with cardboard. It turned off the lights. It locked the main doors to the restaurant.
The Grill Island restaurant experiment on Joliet's far west side was over. The Grill Island was in the same commercial strip mall as the Lou Malnati's Pizzeria Takeout.

Now, two months after the demise of Grill Island, there are new signs posted in the front window. These signs alert people that Amba Mediterranean Grill will be opening in its place. No date for the grand opening was announced. The sign simply says, "coming soon."
Photos covering the windows indicate that Amba will feature protein bowls, shawarma wraps, falafel and hummus.
