J.C. Penney Employee Stole From Joliet Store: Complaint

The Crest Hill teenager was employed at the J.C. Penney Store at the Louis Joliet Mall.

JOLIET, IL - An 18-year-old woman from Crest Hill finds herself charged with two felonies after a Joliet Police Department investigation. Alexis R. House, of the 1100 block of Elizabeth, is charged theft, a Class 2 felony, and retail theft, a Class 3 felony. According to her criminal complaint, House "knowingly obtained unauthorized control over property of J.C. Penney, 3340 Mall Loop Drive."

House is accused of stealing currency, having a value "in exceeding $10,000 and not exceeding $100,000." The dates of House's crimes, the complaint states, occurred between May 23 and July 28.

The criminal complaint states that on June 9, House, as an employee at J.C. Penney, "knowingly under-rang certain merchandise in that she caused the cash register to reflect $305.21 for the purchase of clothing with a retail value of $1,441.41 with the intention of depriving the merchant of the full retail value of the merchandise ..."

House was booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility last Thursday. On Monday afternoon, House posted $2,000 bail, or 10 percent of her $20,000 bond, to remain free pending her future court appearances at the Will County Courthouse.
