All Remaining Carson's Stores Closing Wednesday

160 years after the Chicago company was founded, all remaining stores — including those in Illinois — will close for good on Wednesday.

ILLINOIS — It's the end of an era. After more than 160 years, Chicago-based department store Carson's will close all of its remaining locations for good at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The stores have been in liquidation since April, when parent company Bon-Ton announced it had failed to find a buyer during bankruptcy proceedings. Deals of 70 to 90 percent off items (and an extra 40 percent off your entire purchase) can be had for shoppers who manage to make it to one of the remaining stores before they shut their doors forever.

These are the remaining Chicago-area stores still open as of early Wednesday afternoon, according to the Carson's website, with several other stores marked as "temporarily closed."

The news comes on the heels of other retailers — like the beloved Toys R Us and the struggling Sears — closing locations or shutting down for good amid competition from online sellers.
