JOLIET —The Joliet City Council will vote on Tuesday night whether to approve a drive-thru permit to allow for the city's first Jack in the Box restaurant. It will go at the site of the vacant Arby's restaurant on Route 59, between Shorewood and Plainfield.
According to a City Council memo:
On September 26, the Department of Public Works received a formal request for a drive-thru facility for a proposed Jack in the Box Restaurant to be located at 2101 Route 59. The restaurant will be on the site of the former Arby’s Restaurant.
The building will be remodeled along with other site improvements. The City’s Planning Division has reviewed the preliminary site plan and has no remaining outstanding items.
The city staff's recommendation to the City Council?
"Upon final investigation, the Department of Public Works has determined that there is sufficient storage on the site, and therefore recommends approval of the drive-thru permit subject to approval of the final engineering plans.
"Based on the above, it is recommended that the Mayor and City Council approve the Drive Thru Permit for a Jack in the Box Restaurant at 2101 IL Route 59."
In July, Jack in the Box CEO Darin Harris told the Chicago Tribune the company was planing locations in New Lenox, Naperville, Plainfield, Carol Stream, Tinley Park, Lake in the Hills, Countryside and Chicago.
Previously, Plainfield Mayor John Argoudelis told Patch Jack in the Box identified the village as one of the places they’d like to open, but no solid plans were in the works.
