Person Passed Out At Gas Station, Joliet Police Arrest Combative Man Who Gets In Their Way: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A 33-year-old Chicago man who was patronizing at an east side of Joliet gas station wound up being taken away in handcuffs after a confrontation with Joliet police officers, his arrest report shows.

Joliet police arrested Cameron Tompkins on charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.

Four days ago, on April 18, at 8:59 p.m., Joliet's patrol officers responded to the Exxon gas station at 710 East Cass Street for an unresponsive person in need of medical assistance.
Upon arrival, officers found the person who appeared to be unconscious and highly intoxicated.

The Joliet Fire Department responded and began providing
medical care. During the response, an uninvolved male identified as Tompkins repeatedly interfered with emergency personnel despite being given multiple commands to step back, according to police spokesman Dwayne English.

Tompkins ignored those commands, acted in an aggressive manner, and at one point slapped an officer’s hand away multiple times. When officers attempted to place him into
custody, Tompkins resisted and continued to disregard lawful orders, English pointed out.

He was then taken into custody without further incident. He was charged with Tompkins was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a notice to appear in court.
