JOLIET, IL — Will County Coroner Laurie Summers announced on Monday that Sunday's crash along Interstate 55 in Joliet killed a 21-year-old village of Shorewood resident named Jose A. Perez. The fatality happened along I-55 southbound in Troy Township and the Illinois State Police is continuing to investigate the crash, she said.
On Sunday morning, Patch reported that thefatal crash closed southbound Interstate 55 in Joliet, according to state police.
According to Illinois State Police public information officer Ryan Wagand, ISP Troop 3 responded to the I-55 location near Black Road for the report of a three-vehicle fatal traffic crash.
One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. One occupant was transported to a local hospital with injuries. All southbound lanes were closed and reopened at approximately 11:20 a.m. Traffic was diverted off I-55 southbound at U.S. Route 30, he noted.
