JOLIET, IL — A 44-year-old Joliet man was booked into the Will County Jail over the weekend in connection with allegations that he used cleaning supplies to harm two members of the Joliet Police Department, who responded to his house.
According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 11:56 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Roxbury Court for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that a woman had been locked out of the home by Brian Kenworthy.
The woman requested police standby while she retrieved her belongings to leave the residence and provided officers with access to the home, police said.
"While inside, Kenworthy confronted officers and became verbally aggressive. During the encounter, he intentionally sprayed officers with aerosol household products. Despite multiple warnings to stop, he continued and ultimately sprayed an officer in the face," English said.
The criminal complaint indicates that Kenworthy sprayed two different police officers in the face with Febreze and that he sprayed the same officer in the face with Lysol.
Kenworthy was then taken into custody without further incident. The Will County State's Attorney's Office charged Kenworthy with four counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer.
He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Kenworthy was ultimately let out of the jail after prosecutors opted not to file a petition to keep him detained under the SAFE-T-Act.
