Fisherman Island never caught on with the Joliet community. It was rare to see more than one or two customers at the restaurant at any time.

JOLIET, IL — After being open for more than three and a half years, Joliet's Fisherman's Island Seafood & Chicken carryout-only restaurant next to the McDonald's on West Jefferson Street has closed for business. There are no signs letting would be customers know of the bad news. The property is now turning into a mess and there are overgrown weeds along West Jefferson Street, which isn't a good look for the city of Joliet.

Back in 2022, Joliet Patch produced a story revealing the addition of Fisherman's Island to West Jefferson Street.

"The food is delicious," proclaimed Ahmed Gahrib, who said he would manage Joliet's latest restaurant.

The property had been vacant for the past five years after being an Illinois Title & Loan, closing in 2017. Many Joliet residents remember when the building was a Checkers fast-food restaurant.
