JOLIET, IL — Over roughly the past week, a lot of great events and activities have transformed the landscape of Joliet's downtown. The new City Square finally opened. Los Angeles artist Sijia Chen oversaw the installation of her Unity Dome. Kenny Banks opened The Banks Bridal Suites & Lodging, drawing famous actor Bill Murray as his first guest.

Come next week, Joliet police officer Tyrell Hundley will open his Rage Cage business in downtown Joliet across the street from the Jitters Coffee House at 173 N. Chicago St. Thursday, May 14, will mark the first official day of being open.

What is Rage Cage?

"Rage Cage is a safe, controlled environment where you can physically release stress, anger and built-up pressure by breaking objects," Hundley's advertising brochure explains. "This isn't just fun, it's real emotional release."

Customers choose from different packages and levels of breakables. Then you suit up with goggles, gloves and jumpsuits provided by Rage Cage.

After that, you step into your private rage room and smash, break and release everything.

During Thursday's interview, Hundley explained that Rage Cage will be open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Thursday and Friday hours will be 4 to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday hours will be noon to 10 p.m.

Monday, May 11, will mark the first day that customers can go online to sign up and book their session.

"You can come down alone or with a group," Hundley remarked. "We have different packages for solos and friends."

Hundley's Joliet Rage Cage features three different smash rooms plus one room featuring black ultraviolet lights and UV paints. That room is called the paint expression room.

Customers can be as young as 13 years old as long as they are accompanied by an adult. The Rage Cage sessions will typically last for 20 to 25 minutes.

Among the items that customers will be able to break are computer printers, keyboards, computer monitors and "tons of glass bottles," Hundley promised.

"Rage Cage is more than just breaking things; it's about release," Hundley explained to Patch. "I built this space intentionally so people can walk in carrying stress, pressure or frustration and leave feeling lighter. As a Marine veteran, police officer and entrepreneur from Joliet, I know how important it is to have healthy outlets. I wanted to create something different for downtown, an experience that's fun, creative and also gives people a way to let go for a moment. Everything here was built with purpose, and I hope people can feel that when they walk through the doors."
