Joliet Burglar's Fanny Pack Contained 13 Live Rounds Of Ammunition: Prosecutors Reveal

JOLIET, IL — Now that 28-year-old Joliet transplant Anthony Marek has been arrested three different times already in 2026, the Will County State's Attorney's Office has filed a petition to revoke Marek's pretrial release. Joliet police made their latest arrest of Marek during the overnight hours of Wednesday.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 1:10 a.m., the officers responded to the 1600 block of Mayfield Avenue for a motor vehicle burglary in progress. English said that the owner was watching the burglar on surveillance
video going through his vehicle parked in his driveway. The burglar was later seen walking away from the area.

While responding, an officer found someone matching the suspect’s description near Larkin Avenue and Mayfield Avenue and detained him, Marek.

"Surveillance footage later confirmed Marek as the individual seen entering the victim’s vehicle and rummaging through items inside the center console and front seat area," English announced.

He said the officers found a backpack in Marek’s possession containing electronics and a wallet with identification belonging to a resident in the 1500 block of Douglas Street. Joliet police also realized that Marek had allegedly burglarized another vehicle parked at that residence. Officers recovered the stolen property and returned it to the victim, Marek's arrest report indicated.

English advised that the officers also recovered ammunition from a bag in Marek’s possession; Marek was already on pre-trial release in two separate criminal cases. Marek was processed at the Joliet Police Department on charges of two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle, two counts of violation of pre-trial release, unlawful possession of
ammunition and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later transported to the Will County Jail and that's where he remained as of Friday afternoon.

Prosecutors indicated in Thursday's filing to revoke pretrial release that Marek "had a crack pipe in his pocket and 13 live rounds of .22-caliber ammunition in his fanny pack. He does not have a FOID card."
