JOLIET, IL — A significant crash has happened again right near the Des Plaines River I-80 Bridge in Joliet and Rockdale's Police Department announced that westbound I-80 has been closed so emergency crews can reach the scene.
Wednesday's wreck happened at 5:40 p.m. Rockdale's police chief said that Illinois State Police and the Joliet Fire Department responded to the scene. He said it was his understanding that one of the cars involved in the wreck caught on fire underneath the vehicle and that other bystanders traveling on I-80 then tried to help rescue people who may have trapped inside the vehicle.
For Rockdale, the Meadow Avenue eastbound I-80 ramps were also being closed so that the emergency crews can try to get to the scene, the police noted.
"If you are traveling on I-80 eastbound, do not get off at Larkin Avenue to try to get around the traffic crash. You will not be able to," Rockdale police revealed.
